Don’t despair if you want to stream at the Tesla supercharger but don’t pay for premium connectivity – you might have an official alternative. According to Electrek, Tesla EV owner has seen Satellite Starlink’s internet dish at the supercharger station. It is not clear how much or if they can be accessed by drivers, but the spread of at least includes Florida.
Tesla hasn’t commented on the launch and believes it has dissolved his homework team.
There are several possible use for Starlink Broadband in the Supercharger. At least, it can replace or add existing connections that handle the basics such as payment and charger status. It can help companies spread superchargers faster and in more remote areas. It’s important when the brand hopes to allow charging for non-Tesla EVs and triple the size of the station network.
You don’t need a lot of bandwidth (US Starlink’s median connection is around 97Mbps) only to process transactions, and will not be surprising if Tesla uses satellite links to provide WiFi to SuperCharger customers. You are usually parked with a charger long enough to watch several episodes of TV – you can stream the show without subscribing to premium connectivity or using your mobile as a hotspot. Network congestion can be a problem if charger is busy, but it will be comfortable and potentially sell customers at star service at home.
